REVIEW:

When 17-year -old Abby has her art rejected for an art show because it lacks “heart”, she’s determined to fix that. She decides to compose a list that gives someone more heart, and she plans to complete over the summer with the help of her best friend Cooper. But, will she be able to complete the list in time?

I knew almost nothing about this book going into it, but I was super excited to dive in! I mean, just look at the cover! And I certainly wasn’t disappointed.

I’m usually not really one for contemporary romance. It takes a pretty spectacular romance book to keep me interested in the plot with nothing else going on but romance. But this book was different. One of the reasons this romance was so much better for me than others is because it’s YA. A big turnoff for romance novels most of the time (at least for me) is that usually the main characters are already in their thirties, and, as a teenager, it’s much harder to relate to those types of characters. But because this book is YA the main character is a teenager, which makes it so much easier to relate to her! I definitely appreciated that.

Another thing I really appreciated was the humor. I laughed a lot during this book, which is always great. I think the humor added a lot to the story, and of course it kept me amused!

There were some parts that seemed unrealistic though. (I won’t say which parts to avoid spoilers) So that did throw me off a little bit, but overall it was sweet, and fun, and I loved it!

The Blurb

Seventeen-year-old Abby Turner’s summer isn’t going the way she’d planned. She has a not-so-secret but definitely unrequited crush on her best friend, Cooper. She hasn’t been able to manage her mother’s growing issues with anxiety. And now she’s been rejected from an art show because her work “has no heart.” So when she gets another opportunity to show her paintings, Abby isn’t going to take any chances.

Which is where the list comes in.

Abby gives herself one month to do ten things, ranging from face a fear (#3) to learn a stranger’s story (#5) to fall in love (#8). She knows that if she can complete the list, she’ll become the kind of artist she’s always dreamed of being.

But as the deadline approaches, Abby realizes that getting through the list isn’t as straightforward as it seems . . . and that maybe—just maybe—she can’t change her art if she isn’t first willing to change herself.
